Mostra del Ricamo a mano e del Tessile di Valtopina 2024
In Valtopina (PG), in the heart of Umbria, the 21st edition of the Hand Embroidery and Hand Textile Exhibition will be held from 6 to 8 September. This event has developed a clear identity over time, becoming a reference point for production and research in the field of embroidery, lace and textiles, both nationally and internationally.
In addition to traditional techniques, the exhibition devotes special attention to innovation, offering specific spaces to highlight the creations of contemporary craftswomen-artists. The event is increasingly establishing itself as a place to discover new and interesting creative proposals.
During the event, at the Museum of Embroidery and Textiles, it will be possible to visit the exhibition ‘Roots, Metamorphosis and Mixtures’, part of the 2024 edition of the International Biennial of Contemporary Fiber Art of Valtopina.
Numerous other exhibitions will enrich the event, including:
- ‘Handkerchiefs and Souvenirs’, an exhibition of textile antiques
- ‘Grand Tour’, organised by the Valtopina Embroidery School
- ‘Bio Valtopina 2024’ by Fabia Delise
- ‘Stile Eleganza Sogno’, curated by Lucia Clerici
- ‘Anima Preziosa’ by Katya Fernandez, embroiderer and collaborator of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan
- ‘Talent’ by Maria Bisacco
- ‘Vezzi privati e pubbliche virtù’, le arti femminili tra moda e ornamento dal 1870 agli anni della Grande Guerra, by Giulio Alessandretti
- ‘Colour, Lexicon, Memory and Symbolism’ by Silvia Giani
- ‘Urban Textile Art’ by Elvira Guglielmi and Maria Mancini
The inauguration will take place on Friday 6 September at 10.30 a.m. with the opening of the Exhibition Centre Pavilion A-B of the Palasport and the side exhibitions. On the same day, at 9.30 p.m., at the Centro Polivalente Subasio, there will be a fashion show of period dresses and lingerie entitled ‘Mode e modi: un viaggio nella storia’.
On Saturday 7 September, at 10.30 a.m., in the Sala Gandini, the conference ‘Storie di trame e di donne’ will be held, with talks by Katya Fernandez, embroiderer and collaborator of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and Sandra Cosmi, president of Reggio Ricama.
On Sunday 8 September, again at Sala Gandini, ‘Il gomitolo della Vita’ will be held, a series of art therapy workshops organised by lecturer Tiziana Luciani.
Over the three days of the event, short courses in embroidery and lace-making will be organised, with a focus on traditional Umbrian stitches. The mini-courses, lasting two hours, will be held in the scheduled workshops. In addition, first-level basket-weaving courses will be held on Sunday, 8 September, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Even the youngest children will be able to have fun with thread by participating in specific workshops:
- ‘Storie di Filo e di Intrecci’, readings and animations for children from 2 to 8 years of age, organised by Chiara Piermatti, and ‘Intrecci e Nodi’ workshops of the Valtopina Embroidery School. These will be held on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September from 5 to 6.30 pm.
- ‘Fare Insieme’, activities for children aged 8 to 12, with a basic embroidery course (Assisi stitch), organised by the Punto Assisi School in Palazzo. These workshops will also take place on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September from 5.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
The children's courses are free of charge and materials will be provided by the organisation.
