Antiquarium - Baschi

The Antiquarium of Baschi, located in the town hall, houses artifacts from the archaeological site of Scoppieto (near Civitella del Lago) on the ground floor, and finds from the surrounding municipal territory in the semi-basement.

The findings range from the Protohistoric period (13th century B.C.E.) to the Early Middle Ages (6th century C.E.).

The excavations at Scoppieto uncovered a ceramic workshop active from the late 1st century B.C.E. to around 70-80 C.E.

The museum visit itinerary is organized into sections. Illustrated panels explain the stages of clay processing, maps with illuminated markers help locate the sites, and models of the kilns and transport ships create a stimulating environment full of ideas for educational activities.

Among the artifacts from Scoppieto are fine tableware, lamps, cooking pottery, and bricks.

The first section is dedicated to ceramic production: here, panels describe all the stages involved in the creation of terra sigillata, from the extraction and settling of the clay to the shaping and firing of the pottery.

The second section focuses on trade and the distribution of artifacts produced in Scoppieto throughout Italy and major centers of the Mediterranean basin, all the way to Alexandria in Egypt. From Scoppieto, the goods were transported to Rome and the Tyrrhenian coast on small boats navigating the waters of the Tiber River.

The third and final section of the museum, located in the basement rooms, consists of a photographic exhibition of archaeological finds uncovered over the past centuries in the area and now housed in various Italian museums.
