Ovo Pinto Museum in Civitella del Lago
A one-of-a-kind museum near the charming Lake Corbara, in Civitella del Lago, houses a collection of thousands of eggs from all kinds of animal species, painted and carved by national and international artists.
The ancient art of painting eggs
Egg painting during the Easter period is a very old tradition, widespread throughout Europe and especially central Italy. Eggs were dyed using natural elements like flower, herb and onion infusions then blessed and eaten on Easter Day.
To revive this tradition, thanks to the brilliant intuition of Bernardini Anacleto, president of a youth cultural association, the “Mostra Concorso Nazionale Ovo Pinto” has been held in Civitella del Lago since 1982, open to anyone who wants to express their creativity during the Easter period.
This extraordinary exhibition led to the opening of the unique "Museo Ovo Pinto” in 2005, turning an ancient rural custom into a prestigious and refined form of art.
