The 43nd edition of the Palio dei Terzieri, an important event within the Ottobre Trevano, will be held in Trevi on Sunday, 5 October 2025 with the carts of the three Terzieri (Matiggia, del Piano and del Castello), ready to challenge the chronometer on an uphill course of 800 metres.
Since 1980, the Palio dei Terzieri has been recalling the tenacity and ardour with which the young Trevans resurrected their city from the destruction of 1214 by the Spoleto people at the behest of Duke Leopold, as reported in the Annali Ecclesiastici.
The start of the race, which takes place after the third touch of the tower bell, is from ‘Porta Nuova’ and winds along the ancient walls to ‘Piazza del Comune’, the heart of the city. Here, the Mora, a wooden bust of a warrior woman, waits impatiently for the ‘bàlio’, the commoner who is entrusted with the concluding gesture of the race, to snatch the key from her right hand to open the tower door and give the touch of the bell, a symbolic sign of the reconquest of the city.
Twenty young ‘Portacolori’ (colour bearers) compete for each Terziere, taking turns in several relays in the exciting race, during which one pulls and the others push the cart, weighing 430 kg, with all their strength. Between one change and the next, there is no respite: after the passing of the baton, one must continue to run to reach the Piazza within two minutes of the touch of the ‘bàlio’ bell. 
The Terziere that took the shortest time and committed the fewest irregularities wins.
