Feast of San Pancrazio
The Festa di San Pancrazio will be held in Calvi dell’Umbria from 11 to 14 May.
This is an ancient feast, which some documents date back to 1491.
As every year, it will begin on 11 May with the meeting of the contrade (quarters), the tables, and the dressing of the banners. The start of the festival will be announced by a herald on horseback, after which the historical procession will form according to a strict ceremonial. 12 May, the day of the Saint's martyrdom, is dedicated to the re-enactment of the disputes over the possession of Monte San Pancrazio.
The day of 13 May will be the day of the arm. The procession will accompany the relic of the Arm of San Pancrazio through the streets of the town: a silver arm containing a relic procured by Carlo Simoncelli from the catacombs of the Basilica on the Aurelia and donated to the community in 1646.
The festival will end on 14 May with the Day of Counts, when the banners will be handed back to the municipal authorities, who will guard them until the following year.
