L’Albero di Natale in Ceramica più grande del mondo - Deruta

The World’s Biggest Ceramic Christmas Tree - Deruta

As per tradition, the world's biggest ceramic Christmas Tree will be lit on 8 December, at 5.30 pm, in Piazza dei Consoli in Deruta and will remain on display until 6 January.

The structure will be eleven metres high and will consist of two plinths: the first will be a cube entirely covered in ceramics; the other, an octagon, again with hand-painted ceramic panels, each representing a different scene from the Nativity. From the cube will rise the trunk composed of no less than nineteen cylinders surmounted by a one-metre spike, all made of ceramic. The cylinders and the ferrule were made by master potters and painted by ceramic artists who created a true work of art.

Sixteen rows of four branches each, also made of ceramic, will complete the tree, from which no less than 250 Christmas balls with different decorations and colours will be hung.

The tree has been created by the 'Pro Deruta' association, in collaboration with Deruta's artisans and ceramic artists and with the patronage of the municipal administration.
