The village of Poreta
Around the second half of the 15th century, due to frequent raids by bands of brigands, a wall was erected around the ancient village.

Around the second half of the 15th century, due to frequent raids by bands of brigands, a wall was erected around the ancient village.
Around the second half of the 18th century, after an extremely violent earthquake, the castle was gradually abandoned. Indeed, the population built their dwellings outside the walls, using the same stones of those which had been previously destroyed.
The San Cristoforo church, built after the castle, was later dedicated to Santa Maria della Misericordia in honour of a miraculous representation of the Virgin Mary that was inside the church that survived the earthquake without a scratch.
