GRAND TOUR RANDO

Grand Tour among the waters of the green valleys

The sport event for hiking cyclists, certified ACP (part of the ARI Italian championship), is going to take place on the 10th September. It is going to leave from Terni at the Marmore Waterfall’s Lower Belvedere, at 11 pm of the previous day and aims at reliving the beauties of the Grand Tour of the Terni Province.

From the 17th century Umbria was one of the most favourite sites for the rich young men of the European aristocracy who had the chance to enrich their own personal luggage leaving for long journeys.

Travellers, by going down along the peninsula on the way to Rome, were used to cross Umbria by going through the Flaminia road and approaching the areas of Terni, Narni and Orvieto.

The round trail of the Rando Grand Tour, about 310 km long on asphalt road, is totally equipped with fixed road traffic signs and uses secondary roads with very low level of vehicular traffic.  Beyond the whole trail called “extreme”, there are other three routes: the “standard” one, 200 km long, the “Basic” one, 100 km long and the “Promo” route, 50 km long. These routes are viable at any time and with any means of transport: bike, electric bike, motorbike and car.

The routes are equipped with 18 Rando Points, mainly coffee-bars, where it’s possible to collect the travel card and get some stamps that confirm and certify the route taken. In that way it’s possible to obtain the Grand Tour’s permanent patent, demonstrating that one cycled for over 200 km within a 24-hour period.
