Paul Jenkins - The Absolute Painting

Paul Jenkins (1923 - 2012), one of the greatest abstract artists of all time, will be the protagonist, from 29 October 2023 to 7 January 2024, of an exhibition at CIAC - Centro Italiano Arte Contemporanea di Foligno, entitled "La Pittura Assoluta", curated by Italo Tomassoni, and in collaboration with the Ronchini Gallery in London.
Known for the bright color of his abstractions, Paul Jenkins embodies the New York School and is one of the leading representatives of second-generation abstract expressionism.
His works are now owned by more than one hundred institutions including museums and foundations in ten different countries, and his work continues to be widely exhibited at major galleries around the world.

Ranging from monochromatic works such as Phenomena Cardinal Sign (1972) to canvases with the most varied coloring as Phenomena Listen Listen (1968)Foligno’s exhibition focuses on the artist’s paintings made in the decades following his critical transition from oil to acrylic in the sixties.
This exhibition aims to show the public the continuous experimentation of Jenkins with color, light, form and expression, to which the artist devoted himself physically and spiritually throughout his career. From the dark and intense canvases of the late fifties full of mystery and contrast, to the bold and tactile ones of the nineties with their thick and kneaded features, to the most ephemeral compositions of the 2000s. Horizontal layers of color in Phenomena Ancestral Striations (1995) appear to pulsate under pressure.

With a similar dynamism, Phenomena Invocation at the Anvil (1998) is just as powerful with clearly defined shapes painted with a thick paste that seem to explode with incendiary heat and flames from the veils of color below.

On the contrary, Phenomena Initiation (2007) is composed of vertical veils with brilliant tones, both transparent and opaque, that overlap and merge to fill the entire canvas with vibrant colors.

The exhibition is open from Thursday to Sunday from 10:30 to 13:00 and from 15:30 to 19:00
Ticket: Full € 7.00; Reduced € 5.00 (groups with more than 15 units, affiliated FAI Members and Members Italian Touring Club); Reduced € 3.00 (children from 7 to 18 years); Free children up to 6 years, tour guides, journalists, disabled people and their companions.
