From 6 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, Assisi celebrates Christmas with a rich programme combining contemporary art, tradition, and spirituality. The city becomes an open-air gallery thanks to spectacular light projections inspired by the theme of peace, featuring works by Chagall, Magritte, Klimt, Picasso, Köder and, for the first time, Banksy, in connection with the exhibition Peace on Earth at the Rocca Maggiore.

Assisi offers an immersive and emotional journey that lights up churches, monuments and squares, creating a symbolic path dedicated to fraternity and connection. The lighting ceremony and the Christmas tree in Piazza del Comune, on 6 December, will take place in live connection with Bethlehem, as a sign of friendship between the two cities.

The programme also includes Nativity scenes across the city, international Nativity art exhibitions with over 800 works, living Nativity scenes in the hamlets, and the arrival of the historic Petrignano Nativity in the city centre.

The event hosts the DeMusicAssisi Winter Edition, the medieval music festival with concerts, workshops and reenactments. Visitors and families can enjoy Christmas markets, street performances, children’s attractions, the Christmas Train, and guided tours of the historic centre and Mount Subasio Park.

The New Year’s Eve Celebration will animate the city with live music and DJ sets, while on 6 January the Befana will descend from the Torre del Popolo to greet families and children.
