Guided tour: The Story of the Holy Ring

In Perugia, on the evenings of Sunday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 29, 2025, it will be possible to take part in evening guided tours in Italian and English to discover the history and legend surrounding the Holy Ring, kept inside the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. The itinerary begins at the Chapel of Saint Joseph, where the precious reliquary will be exceptionally visible – normally kept at a height of eight meters and shown to the public only on rare occasions during the traditional “calata.”

According to tradition, the ring is said to be the wedding ring given to Mary by Joseph. The arrival of the Holy Ring had a profound impact on the city, ushering in a time of artistic, religious, and political ferment, marked by popular devotion and major artistic commissions.
During the tour, participants will explore the narrative blending history, legend, faith, and devotion, through the artworks housed in the Chapter Museum, where the visit continues after the stop in the cathedral.

It is a unique opportunity to get to know not only the story of the Holy Ring, but also the cultural and artistic transformations it inspired in the city over the centuries.

Meeting point: Cathedral of San Lorenzo, Piazza IV Novembre, Perugia.
Duration: approximately 45 minutes.
