The Running of the Casks will be held from 18 to 20 October 2024 in Costacciaro.
The event was born in 1991 from the idea of Arcangelo Torcolini and celebrates the wine-making period, hence the ‘Trofeo di San Martino’ award. 
The festival consists of a race of two barrels rolling around an axle to which a helm is attached, pulled by a formation of young people, called ‘bottaioli’. For each team there is a head cooper, an innkeeper and a race director.
The two barrels and their teams compete in Costacciaro, the capital (Hostaria de la Porta) and the hamlets, in particular Villa Col de' Canali (Hostaria de la Rocca). The race is divided into two timed heats with a final mathematical sum. The team that takes the shorter time triumphs.
During the festival period, the respective Hostaria are set up. For the teams from Costacciaro, the party at the Hostaria de la Porta coincides with the day of the race, while for the Hostaria de la Rocca, that of the hamlets, the cheerful evening is set for the eve of the race. 
In the typical cellars of San Martino among others, chestnuts and new wine.
