Umbria Danza Festival 2025
Perugia will host the Umbria Danza Festival from 20 to 29 June 2025, a festival dedicated to contemporary dance with eight days of programming including performances, shows and new creations. The festival opens on 19 June at Palazzo della Penna with Dance Well, an inclusive artistic practice led by Lucia Guarino and Emanuela Bovo.
The program includes 30 performances, 24 companies (4 of which are international), 10 national premieres, one preview and one new production across seven city venues, including the Complesso di Sant’Anna, Palazzo della Penna, the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria and the Orto Medievale. These spaces become an integral part of the performative experience, welcoming formats that foster interaction between artists and audiences.
The 2025 edition stands out for its focus on a new generation of choreographers and performers. Among the new works are Petricore, Baia, Non ho chiesto (io) di venire al mondo, Lamponi, and Se domani, which reflect the diverse languages and sensibilities of contemporary dance. The community project A Human Song involves an intergenerational group of residents in a workshop that will lead to a scenic action on 27 June in the cloister.
Also scheduled are STUPOROSA, winner of the 2024 Ubu Prize by Francesco Marilungo, and an evening dedicated to choreographer Maguy Marin, with the company directed by Michele Merola. The program concludes with Folklore Dynamics, a piece by Matteo Vignali and Noemi Dalla Vecchia that premiered at the Venice Biennale 2024.
