Not far from the center of Deruta there is The Shrine, built in 1687 on the site of a miraculous event. It is so named because of the heights on which it stands, the Bath Hill.

According to tradition it was here found an earthenware fragment with the image of the Virgin and Child. Fixed on the trunk of an oak tree, the image became an object of veneration, and after the first miracle, became an important destination for many sufferers who flocked here to ask for grace, leaving on the plant their votive.
Building the sanctuary, in which there is incorporated the oak with the miraculous effigy, Deruta potters gave start production of votive offerings for the use of the faithful.
Over three centuries there are collected over seven hundred tiles representing a significant religion and local customs evidence, as well as technical and stylistic evolution of majolica of Deruta.
