OT KOT - I Vinogatti
OT KOT from Polish 'Just a Cat' is the title of the exhibition of graphic art scheduled at the Museo del Vino in Torgiano from 25 May to 7 July 2024.
A retrospective exhibition dedicated to the artist and designer Andrzej Kot (Poland-Lublin, 21 November 1946 - 17 February 2015) present with his ex-libris in the MUVIT's themed collection. Curated by Jaroslaw Koziara and the Lungarotti Foundation, the exhibition offers an unprecedented selection of works centred on his favourite subject - the cat - realised in hundreds of imaginative depictions on the thread of irony, in many cases in combination with wine. There are various curiosities linking the artist to the charming feline: his surname "KOT" means "cat" or, an unusual coincidence, the date of his death, 17 February on International Cat Day, or the commemorative façade dedicated to him on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the founding of his city, Lublin, where his "cats" were graffitied.
Animal world and typographic art coexist harmoniously in Kot's numerous experiments aimed at a constant search for new fonts and different forms and symbols.
The initiative is part of the activities celebrating the MUVIT's fiftieth anniversary, testifying to the Lublin-born artist's deep bond with the Museum, attested by the copious correspondence over the years with the Director, Maria Grazia Marchetti Lungarotti, and by numerous graphic creations inspired by wine and created for the MUVIT.
