METALLICA 2025
The fifteen Renaissance rooms of Palazzo Vitelli a Sant’Egidio in Città di Castello host the exhibition “METALLICA. Sculpture in Italy 1947-2025,” curated by Professor Bruno Corà. The exhibition offers a survey of the evolution of Italian metal sculpture, starting from Lucio Fontana's spatialist movement in 1947 and passing through the works of artists such as Melotti, Colla, Pomodoro, Mirko, and Cagli, up to the masters of contemporary generations like Isgrò, Ranaldi, Mainolfi, Salvadori, Rizzoli, Protti, and Bassiri. The exhibition itinerary highlights the multifaceted identity of the Italian metal sculpture language within the context of other international scenarios. The exhibited sculptures, by twenty-nine artists including Fontana, Mirko, Marini, Uncini, Pomodoro, Colla, Baj, Cagli, Mattiacci, Spagnulo, Mannucci, Manzù, Consagra, Melotti, Pardi, Ranaldi, Bove, Paladino, De Chirico, and Kounellis, have been conceived to be self-supporting, thus allowing full appreciation of the frescoes and decorative elements of the Renaissance palace. The aim is to emphasize the continuity between the rich Renaissance artistic heritage of Città di Castello and the vibrancy of the contemporary Italian art scene. The exhibition is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free on Sunday, March 30.
