Jazz in August
The notes of jazz will resound in Piazza IV Novembre in Perugia for four days.
Even though this special edition cannot really compensate for the Umbria Jazz cancellation, it is a first step towards a new normality, waiting to celebrate again the great music together with the most acclaimed international artists in 2021.
This special edition is an event dedicated exclusively to Italian jazz, which for years has occupied a prominent place in the Umbria Jazz billboards.
In this difficult and dramatic year, we did not give up on jazz, music and culture and the role they have always had as the engine of tourism, social life and the image of Umbria at an international level.
The beautiful Perugian nights of Umbria Jazz will return, but in the meantime Jazz in August will be the soundtrack of the recovery of the Umbrian territory.
Radio Monte Carlo will be the official radio of “Jazz in August”. Its programs, its website and its social networks will give ample prominence to the event and on its frequencies will be given free admission to concerts. Maurizio Di Maggio, unmistakable voice of the radio station, will tell the atmosphere in Perugia and will present the evening performances.
Piazza IV Novembre is the heart of the city's civil and religious life but also the heart of Umbria Jazz. Here the stage has always been present since the first edition in 1973. The history of Umbria Jazz has passed through this square. So, speaking of this ongoing story, it is worth remembering that Gianluca Petrella will bring his Cosmic Renaissance in Piazza IV Novembre this year. It is inspired by the music and figure of Sun Ra, who played in that same square in '73.
3 shows a day are scheduled. There will only be pre-assigned and spaced seats as required by the legislation on combating the spread of the coronavirus.
There will be detailed instructions to explain safety measures and how to move around in the enclosed concert area. Hand sanitizers and surface disinfectants will also be available. Face masks will be compulsory and members of the public will have their temperatures taken on entering the concert area.
There will be no ticket office, and numbered tickets have to be booked online. The entrance to the concert area will be at the corner of Corso Vannucci and Via Fani. The seats available to the public will be divided into 3 sectors, with a different access time for each sector. Staff will be on hand to help maintain social distancing between members of the public and to assist entry and exit from the concert area.
