The eleventh edition of Encuentro, a Festival celebrating Spanish-language literature, will be held from 29 May to 2 June 2024 in Perugia and Castiglione del Lago.
Born in 2014, over the years Encuentro has hosted all the giants of contemporary Spanish-American fiction and culture.
The programme will feature authors, translators, journalists and many others with meetings on books, politics, history, sport and a special focus on the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine.
On 30 May in Perugia, the French Basque writer Amets Arzallus Antia will present his book 'Little Brother', in which he recounts the journey made to Spain by a migrant from Guinea Conakry.
On Friday 31 May, a stimulating debate on the war in Ukraine will take place at the University of Perugia. Hispano-Ukrainian writer Margaryta Yakovenko, Professor of Economic History at the University of St. Petersburg Oleg Nikolaevic Misko (in video link-up) and University of Perugia lecturers Emilio Cassese and Francesco Randazzo will take part in the discussion.
Also on Friday 31 May, Neri Marcorè will present his debut film as director 'Zamora' at the Caporali cinema in Castiglione del Lago and at the Postmodernissimo in Perugia.
On Saturday 1 June, journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, author and face of the Rai Tre programme Report, will present his book 'The Choice'.
Following this, Ada Colau, who was mayor of Barcelona from 2015 to 2023, will participate with writer Alessandro Robecchi in a debate on pacifism and how wars are reported in the mainstream media.
Also on the day of 1 June, Encuentro will host Sergio Ramìrez, writer, former vice-president of Nicaragua and historical leader of the Sandinista movement, who will be the protagonist of a meeting on the revolutions of the 20th century together with the former deputy director of the 'Pais' Juan Cruz, the director of the Cervantes Institute Ignacio Peyrò and the writer Davide Barilli, author of the book Bestiario havanero.
On Sunday, 2 June, before the closing event, again in the company of Ada Colau, who will talk about her experience as mayor of Barcelona, there will be a debate on the war in Gaza, with Palestinian writer Suad Amiry, former 'Venerdì' journalist Raffaela Oriani and the director of 'Left' Simona Maggiorelli.
