The place seems to have gotten its name, Buon Riposo (or Place of Rest), from words Francis himself said, as he often stopped here on his way to or from the La Verna sanctuary. The hermitage has seen the passage of many important religious figures over the centuries, including St. Anthony of Padua, St. Bonaventure, St. Bernard of Siena and the Blessed Francis of Pavia. Visits are possible when the accommodating owners are present.
