Narni's Ring Race

Narni's Ring Race

With the "Ring Race" Narni is going to reenact the ancient splendors in honour of St. Juvenal, first bishop of the town.

The statutes of 1371 established definitely the birth of celebrations in honour of the patron saint, among rites, ceremonies and games.

Today the event lasts three weeks culminating on the second Sunday of May with the famous race at the "Games' Court": the Notice's reading brings Narni back in time with the taverns' opening, the Candles' Offer, the Medieval Days and the Historical Parade made up of musicians, judiciaries and quarters parading along the streets lit by the torches' glare.

The 2018 edition, from the 24th April to the 13th May, will be characterized, as always, by history, food, wine, as well as music: concerts, taverns, shows, games and medieval markets as well as a lot of beauty enhanced by the splendid frame of Narni's medieval village.

The challenge among quarters (Mezule, Fraporta and St. Mary) will remain the reenactment's heart: each knight, by facing his opponent, must get three rings along an elliptic path. A device dropping the opponent's ring with a delay will be activated at the third ring.

The winning quarter is going to held in custody, until the following edition, the silver's ring.

On the occasion of celebrations in honour of the Patron Saint, the Museum of Narni in the Eroli Palace, in cooperation with the Authority for the Ring’s Race, organizes meetings that are thought and adjusted for schools (of all types and levels), as well as kids, young people and their families.
