Cribs in the village 2025

Benano, from 21 December to 11 January, hosts the thirteenth edition of Presepi nel borgo, an event that renews its tribute to the Nativity scene, the symbol of Christmas, with a special focus on Saint Francis of Assisi, traditionally credited with creating the first Nativity. Throughout the event, the village becomes an open-air itinerary where each corner presents a different interpretation of the Nativity, created by private individuals and associations in dialogue with the local historical and landscape setting. Visitors are invited to explore the castle, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the historic centre and the view over Orvieto, experiencing a shared and participatory reading of the Christmas theme. Alongside the exhibition, several complementary moments are scheduled: on Saturday 27 December 2025 at 10.30 a.m., at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, a meeting focuses on the Nativity, Saint Francis and the Alfina area, offering an opportunity for reflection on the relationship with creation and charity; later that afternoon, at 4.00 p.m., Holy Mass is celebrated, followed by a guided visit to the Nativity scenes. On Sunday 28 December, the Nativity Walk from Benano to Castel Viscardo extends the visit to other displays within the municipality. This year’s edition also conveys a message of attention to the most vulnerable, enriching the cultural and human significance of the event.
