GROUP TOUR - 4 DAYS THE PEARLS OF UMBRIA - Programme:
More about: THE PEARLS OF UMBRIA ;
Arrival in Spoleto and meeting with the guide. The city's Roman past lives on in the theatre and the remains of the ancient forum, still an integral part of everyday life in Spoleto. Spoleto is known throughout the world for its scenic Piazza Duomo, one of the venues of the famous Festival dei Due Mondi, and for the imposing Rocca Albornoziana which, together with the Ponte delle Torri, can be considered among the most interesting monuments in Umbria. After lunch at the restaurant, transfer to Spello. Here, art marries taste and every visit, whether to the splendid frescoes by Pinturicchio in the Baglioni Chapel or to Giotto's crucifix at the Church of Sant'Andrea, cannot be ignored. Transfer to hotel for dinner and overnight stay
Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with the guide in Gubbio at Piazza 40 Martiri. Guided tour of the town known as "the city of stone". The walk will take us into the full atmosphere of the free Umbrian municipalities, with their squares, cathedrals and imposing towers. Gubbio, in fact, after having been an Umbrian centre and a Roman municipality, was an important mercantile centre that established itself between the 13th and 14th centuries for the wool cloth trade. The prosperity of the period has left its mark in the monumentality of the historic centre, which, intact, seems to have fallen asleep in the communal era. Lunch in a restaurant in the historic centre of Gubbio.In the afternoon, transfer to Perugia . Hidden by the crown of its hills, the beauty of Perugia is for many yet to be discovered. The guided tour includes a walk along its Etruscan-era walls, the fascinating symbolism of the Fountain of Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, and tales of the salt war in the Rocca Paolina's underground passages. The city is also known as an ancient university town and in fact combines on the one hand its elegant ancient beauty with a sparkling young spirit due to the students of its prestigious university and its many cultural events, from Umbria Jazz to the popular Eurochocolate. Transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Assisi. The city stretches out on the ridge of a hill and with the warm pink colour of its stones stands out against the green of Mount Subasio. Known above all for being the birthplace of St Francis, the poor man who gave life to the Franciscan Order, it was also an Umbrian centre and later a Roman town. Lunch in a restaurant in Santa Maria degli Angeli.After lunch, transfer to Trevi, one of the most beautiful villages in Umbria, overlooking the Umbrian ring road. After visiting Trevi, transfer to an oil mill for a tasting of extra virgin olive oil. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Orvieto for a guided tour. The city is perched on a tufa cliff and is famous for its cathedral built, according to legend, to preserve the relic of the corporal, protagonist of the Eucharistic miracle of Bolsena. Lunch in a restaurant in the centre and return home.
