Satriano Ride

Satriano Ride

In the 1226 summer St. Francis was seriously ill in the vicinity of Nocera Umbra. Then the Assisi people decided to send a knights delegation to bring him back to the Seraphic city.

The Satriano Ride, on schedule on the 2nd and the 3rd September, is the historical re-enactment following on horseback the stages of that ancient journey.

From Rivotorto di Assisi you can reach Nocera Umbra, via Spello and Valtopina, to head back to Assisi via Satriano, where St. Francis and the knights would have stopped for resting.

The event was born in 1926 according to Arnaldo Fortini’s will, lawyer and historian originating in Assisi, who in 1923 formed the Company of Satriano Knights, and some of the main characters of that time, such as Gabriele d'Annunzio and Guglielmo Marconi, took part in it.
