Saint Patrick's Day 2026

In Orvieto, from 14 to 17 March 2026, the Saint Patrick’s Day programme highlights the connection between the city and Ireland through the tradition of lace-making.

At the end of the nineteenth century, Irish lace inspired the creation of the Ars Wetana, contributing to the development of Orvieto lace, which is now part of the city’s local craft tradition.

From 14 to 17 March, Palazzo Bisenzi hosts the exhibition “Incontriamo l’Irlanda”, featuring lace and embroidery dedicated to the shamrock (Shamrock) from different Italian regions. Guest of the exhibition is Veronica Stuart, teacher and curator of Irish lace at the Cork School, who presents different types of Irish lace and leads workshops on traditional techniques.

During the same days, the Pozzo di San Patrizio hosts an exhibition of Orvieto lace and is illuminated in green in homage to Ireland’s patron saint. On 14 and 15 March, guided tours titled “Between history and legend” start from the site, exploring stories and anecdotes related to the monument and its surroundings.

On Sunday 15 March, the Sbandieratori e Musici dei Quartieri di Orvieto will also perform. The programme highlights cultural and craft traditions that connect Orvieto and Ireland.
