Presepe Vivente di Petrignano di Assisi 2025
In Petrignano di Assisi, from 25 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, the 44th edition of the Living Nativity will animate the medieval castle and the banks of the Chiascio River with a historical reconstruction inspired by the Palestine of two thousand years ago. More than two hundred participants will bring to life a route that winds through the village’s lanes and open spaces, culminating in the central scene of the Nativity, evoking the atmosphere of Christ’s birth and the spirit of Saint Francis’s Nativity.
The re-enactment recreates ancient crafts and moments of everyday life, offering an immersive experience with the possibility to interact with historical figures such as Herod, the high priest and the Roman legion. The entire community contributes to the event: volunteers, artisans and families work on the sets, costumes and organisation, preserving a tradition established in 1978 and considered one of the oldest in Umbria.
The Living Nativity takes shape at sunset, when the village lights up and the route leads visitors from the castle area to the river. The event will conclude on 6 January with a parade of all participants followed by the final performance.
