Lancia di luce. Nascita di un capolavoro 2026
From 3 December 2025 to 1 March 2026, in Terni, the exhibition Lancia di Luce. Nascita di un capolavoro tells the story of the obelisk created by Arnaldo Pomodoro, an iconic work for the city and the tallest project ever conceived by the artist, as well as his only sculpture cast entirely in steel.
The exhibition begins in 1984, when the idea for the artwork started to take shape during Sandro Pertini’s visit to the Terni steelworks. In a local context already receptive to contemporary art, the project developed over the course of eleven years, involving the artist, local craftsmen and several key figures, leading to the completion of the work.
The exhibition reconstructs this journey through documents, photographs, drawings, letters and video materials, offering visitors a clear and accessible narrative. The exhibition layout guides the public through the main phases of design and construction, highlighting the decisions and processes that marked the creation of the artwork.
The itinerary is enhanced by original illustrations by Filippo Barbacini, which accompany the historical narrative with a visual interpretation of some key moments in the story.
