Day of the Vow

Day of the Vow

On the 22nd June of each year the town of Assisi celebrates the Day of the Vow in memory of the liberation from the Saracen army through the intercession of St. Claire.

The day recalls the eve of weapons, during which Claire with her companions prayed in the choir of St.

Damian to rescue the city.

During the evening, walls, towers, bell towers, houses, churches and fortresses will be lit by hundreds of torches.

At the dawn of the following day bells will ring to recall the time of the battle: the parade of Brotherhoods, of the Capitol and of the Bishop will descend from the Cathedral and the Bishop, once joined the parade of the municipal representatives, will descend to St. Damian to receive the votive candles offered by the major.
