Christmas is coming to Villa dei Mosaici, in Spello, with a series of workshops for children on 15 and 22 December 2024.
On 15 December at 3.30 p.m. it will be time for the Christmas workshop ‘Traces of Christmas’, which will take children from 4 years of age, adults and families to discover the historical links connecting the custom of using fir trees to create one's own Christmas tree to Roman mythology, and then delve into popular traditions, dwelling on the role that various types of plants had and have at this time of year: in addition to the fir tree, holly, mistletoe, myrtle and other thorny herbs are used in Christmas decorations.
After an in-depth theoretical discussion, we will move on to a workshop activity during which we will discover what traces Christmas plants leave on a special paste created together.
On 22 December at 3.30 p.m., on the other hand, it will be the turn of the Christmas workshop ‘Dies Natalis Hispellum’: following the thread of ancient traditions, the symbolism of light will be explored by creating a glittering decoration with glittered tiles.
