71st European Contest of the A. Belli Experimental Lyrical Theatre

71st European Contest of the A. Belli Experimental Lyrical Theatre

Beyond 100 lyrical singers, coming from every part of the world (Italy, Switzerland, Spain, France, but also Australia, United States, Mexico, Russia, China, Corea) are going to compete on the Spoleto New Theatre's stage: it's the 71st European Contest of the A. Belli Experimental Lyrical Theatre, on schedule from 28th February to 4th March.

Candidates will have to pass three tests to win and participate to the Introductory Course to Debut that is going to culminate in the Experimental Lyrical Season.

The jury, chaired by the famous soprano Edda Moser, is made up of: Karen Stone, superintendent of Magdeburg's Theatre and already director of Cologne's and Dallas opera; Claudio Desderi, illustrious baritone; Enrico Girardi, Corriere della Sera's music critic and professor of musical history and aesthetics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan; Lucas Christ, Artistical Secretary of La Fenice Theatre in Venice; Giuseppe Ferrazza, already President of the Italian Theatre Institute, adviser of Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa and of Verdi Theatre in Trieste as well as Michelangelo Zurletti, musicologist, music critic and artistical director of the Spoleto "A. Belli" Experimental Lyrical Theatre.

A 2017 innovation is the collaboration with La Fenice Theatre in Venice that includes, beyond the presence of a member of La Fenice Theatre's Artistical Drection in the Contest's jury, dedicated hearings of winners in Venice.

At the conclusion of the event, on 4th March at 8.30 pm, the New Theatre is going to host the Concert presenting singers who won the contest.
