Books are blooming in Italy from the 23^rd April to the 31^st May: with the spring arrival, the nature re-awakening also marks the awakening of the desire to read, thanks to "May of Books", the national campaign to promote reading.

The key theme of this seventh edition is reading as a tool for the personal well-being, complemented by other three strands:

- legality;

- anniversaries of famous male and female writers  (in 2017 there are the 125^th anniversary of J. R. R. Tolkien's birth, 150^th anniversary of Luigi Pirandello's birth, 150^th anniversary of Charles Baudelaire's death, 200^th anniversary of Jane Austen's death, 30^th anniversary of Marguerite Yourcenar's death);

- landscape.

Today there are already over 1800 initiatives throughout the country that have been already entered in the database of the May of Books or that are under validation.
