Artistic jugs

Artistic jugs

The exhibition “Artistic jugs”, now in its 17th edition, was born with the aim of underlining the relationship between Candles and the contemporary ceramic art.

The exhibition, set up in the Halls of the Archaeological Section of Consuls’ Palace and in the windows of the old town’s shops, is open from 11th May to 2nd June.

The initiative involves the creation of original jugs of the Candles by artists of ceramics well-informed about the typology of these artefacts, as well as about the function and symbolic value of the “ritual containers”, according to the interpretations provided by the main experts of the Festival of Candles from 1800 to present day.

Therefore, it also represents a field of research around a specific and characteristic object, that could be at the centre of several creations by many artists of ceramics, who could interpret some of its forms and decorations, so to make possible over time the creation of a collection witnessing a taste and a creativity that such initiatives aim at stimulating and promoting.

The creation of artistic jugs in 2018 has been entrusted to Luca Frati from Gubbio, Attilio Quintili from Deruta and Lelia Cardosi from Terracina.
