Correnti Jazz Festival

A new festival enriches the cultural offerings of Umbria, from July 26 to August 6: immersed in the greenery of Upper Umbria, in the municipality of Sigillo (PG), in the setting of Villa Anita and its wonderful park, the Correnti Jazz Festival was born, strongly desired by sibling musicians Sara Jane Ceccarelli and Paolo Ceccarelli.

All the events will take place right in the park, with the exception of the exhibition and master classes that will see the musicians animate the rooms of Villa Anita throughout the week.

A week of full immersion in which a "current of jazz" will flow through Sigillo in order to make this musical genre usable for everyone, easy to enjoy, not niche as it is sometimes perceived. There will also be master classes, literary cafes, evening docufilms, children's theater, a sculpture exhibition, and finally concerts with an ad hoc selection of Italian jazz in its most daring and exciting forms.

It will start on July 26/27 with the first act of the Masterclass in arranging for jazz orchestra directed by trombonist and arranger Massimo Morganti, in collaboration with the Gubbio No Borders Festival now in its XXII edition, open to musicians and musicians willing to perfect their skills.

On July 31, the festival will be officially opened with the solo double bass concert "Memories Future" by musician and composer Paolo Damiani in collaboration with the Umbrian festival Suoni Controvento. On the same day, the exhibition "Bocci's Improvisation - Frozen Music" will be opened at Villa Anita. Umbrian sculptor Nello Bocci shapes his sculptures by fixing rhythm in matter.

On Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 3 to 6 p.m., Fiorenza Gherardi, three-time winner of the Jazzit Award as best press office in the Italian jazz scene, will hold her "Masterclass in self-promotion for musicians."  This will be followed at 6:30 p.m. by the "Libeccio Theater" workshop: children from the Summer Center of the City of Sigillo, involved for 2 weeks in a theater workshop, will tell the birth and evolution of jazz.

On Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. it will be the turn of the literary café with Umbrian bluesman Maurizio Pugno, who with his son Leonardo will present his format between words and music "The House of the 12 Rooms: the blues and its suggestions," followed at 9:30 p.m. by a docufilm on jazz screened in the park of Villa Anita for young and old alike.

From Thursday, Aug. 3, another important event will open for musicians eager to open up to unconventional musical approaches: the "Collettivo Maestrale," an improvisation and conduction workshop directed by double bassist Silvia Bolognesi that will end on Sunday, Aug. 6, with a recorded live performance that will flow into a digital record, the first production of the Correnti Jazz Festival, will kick off. On the evening of Thursday, Aug. 3, the long-awaited concert by singer Serena Brancale with the vocal quartet "Bad Intentions."

On Friday, Aug. 4, the outdoor stage at Villa Anita will see a double concert, for an evening of Umbrian roots: accordionist Federico Gili will present his new album "Cantabile"; then it will be the turn of guitarist Angelo Lazzeri, director of the jazz department of Perugia's Morlacchi Conservatory, with the project "Our favorite Ellington" together with Guido Zorn (double bass) and Alessandro Fabbri (drums), for a tribute to the music of Duke Ellington.

On Saturday, August 5, another double concert concludes the evening events of this first edition of the Correnti Jazz Festival, with 2 unmissable projects: the first set features the trio of young violinist Anais Drago, winner of Top Jazz 2021 as best new talent, who leads the "Terre Ballerine" trio composed of clarinetist Federico Calcagno and drummer and percussionist Max Trabucco.

The second set will feature Antonello Salis on piano and accordion solo for his "Salissolo."

Every evening, from Monday, July 31 to Saturday, Aug. 5, there will be "Volo Libero" Jam Sessions in some of Sigillo's City Hall venues adjacent to Villa Anita, to allow Masterclass students to be able to perform.
