La Francescana Ciclostorica dell’Umbria 2024
In the days of September 20-21-22, 2024, the tenth edition of La Francescana Ciclostorica dell'Umbria will start, an opportunity to ride slowly along lanes, cart tracks, cycle paths, crossing vineyards and olive groves that hide real works of art of nature. Not a race, but a real cycling event that links the discovery of the territory, the love of vintage bicycles.
Hundreds of vintage cyclists, dressed in vintage clothes will gather in Foligno's Piazza della Repubblica, where St. Francis in 1206 began his path to sanctity, to ride the different routes covered by the cyclostorica that stretch across the territory of the Umbrian Valley. Three routes will be offered this year: in addition to the short (30 km, all flat for all types of bicycles) and the long (about 70 km with mt 750 of elevation gain), the medium (53 km and only mt 330 of elevation gain), which is called La Cantiniera, has been introduced.
Each route, which will cross the Valle Umbra, the valley encompassed between Assisi and Spoleto, will be interspersed with splendid refreshment stops, located in wineries nestled among the vineyards, or in the squares of wonderful medieval villages, where you can taste the precious local products, such as the highly prized Sagrantino wine, cured meats, extra virgin olive oil, cereals, legumes and much more.
At the end of the loop route, you will return to Foligno.
Over the three days, Foligno's Piazza della Repubblica, in addition to being the starting and finishing point of La Francescana, will be the scene of the Vintage Market of vintage bikes and parts and vintage cycling clothing.
