La Francescana Ciclostorica dell'Umbria 2025
From 19 to 21 September 2025, Foligno will host La Francescana, a non-competitive vintage cycling event celebrating historic bikes and slow travel. The ride starts from the main square and winds through the gentle hills of the Valle Umbra, passing through charming towns such as Montefalco, Bevagna and Torre del Colle, along country roads and white gravel tracks.
Participants can choose between three circular routes: a 33 km flat ride, a 53 km intermediate route, and an 80 km itinerary for more experienced riders. Along the way, rest stops in historic squares and local wineries offer tastings of Sagrantino wine, cured meats, olive oil and other Umbrian delicacies.
The stars of the event are bicycles built up to 1987 and vintage clothing, from wool jerseys to retro outfits. Each registered rider receives a race number, a jersey bib and a small “passport” to stamp at the refreshment stops along the way.
La Francescana is more than a ride: it’s a chance to discover the region in an authentic way, through nature, history and a shared sense of joy. The event ends back in Foligno with a pasta party open to all participants.
