Festival delle Nazioni 2025
Città di Castello, from 28th August to 12th September 2025, hosts the 58th edition of the Festival delle Nazioni, paying tribute to France and opening a new three-year cycle dedicated to Europe’s cultural identity. The programme blends music, cinema and literature, creating a dialogue between French tradition and Italian creativity, with internationally renowned artists.
The Festival opens with Academy Award-winner Nicola Piovani, who will present Preludio al Cantico, a piece inspired by Saint Francis. The closing event features the world premiere of Filmscapes by Rachel Portman, also an Oscar-winner, performed by Massimo Mercelli and I Solisti Veneti. The programme explores French music from impressionism to modernism and the avant-garde, with tributes to Debussy, Ravel, Boulez and others.
The lineup includes Massimo Quarta, Michel Bourdoncle, Richard Galliano, Les Coquelicots Trio, the Italian Saxophone Quartet and Ensemble Suono Giallo. The festival also embraces multidisciplinary formats: The Little Prince will be interpreted by Vanessa Gravina as a musical monologue, while Guido Barbieri presents Storia di un Gesù, a tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Cinema will be featured with a night dedicated to François Truffaut, combining jazz, film and narration. The Festival continues to focus on younger generations with the Alberto Burri Competition, educational projects with schools, and the Masters and Pupils initiative involving local artisan workshops.
