Federico Seneca (1891 - 1976). Sign and form in advertising

From the 12th of March to the 4th of June 2017, the Umbrian National Gallery in Perugia is going to host an exhibition devoted to Federico Seneca (1891–1976), one of the masters of the 20th century's graphic advertising.

The exhibition includes over 300 pieces among posters, flyers, postcards, cover illustrations, preparatory sketches, signs, billboards, books, magazines and much more, coming from the Salce Collection of Treviso's National Museum, from the Achille Bertarelli Civic Prints Collection - Milano's Sforzesco Castle, from the Ettore Guatelli Museum in Ozzano Taro Collecchio and from different private collections.

It's an authentic journey to discover the creative itinerary of Federico Seneca, from liberty to art deco to a futuristic outlook, until reaching, after the post-war, the modernity with the graphic synthesis of shapes accompanied by typographical inspirations, effects of chiaroscuro and bright colors reflecting how much the artist contributed to create a visual imaginary of an epoch.

The Perugia town occupies an important place in Seneca's career. Arrived in the Umbrian main town after the end of the first world war, he became responsible for the advertising office of the newly-established company Perugina for which he designed the logo and the "cartigli", the typical small cards accompanying the famous chocolate for which he also wrote some texts.

The tasks for Perugina started soon to overlap with the Buitoni's ones. He became, from 1925, director of the Buitoni's advertising office and designed the surprising and effective communication campaign of the glutine small Pasta.
