Guidi – Tancredi. An Invisible Knot
In Foligno, from 28 June to 27 September, the CIAC – Italian Centre for Contemporary Art presents Guidi – Tancredi. An Invisible Knot, an exhibition dedicated to Virgilio Guidi and Tancredi Parmeggiani. Curated by Italo Tomassoni and Giovanni Granzotto, the exhibition brings together more than seventy works, placing Guidi’s masterpieces from the 1920s and 1930s in dialogue with Tancredi’s paintings from the 1950s and 1960s.
The exhibition explores the relationship between two artists whose artistic languages and approaches appear very different, while suggesting the existence of a deeper connection. The subtitle, An Invisible Knot, refers to this underlying link, inviting visitors to consider the similarities and differences between the two painters beyond stylistic and generational distinctions.
The exhibition develops as a comparison between two different approaches to painting and the representation of reality. Virgilio Guidi’s work investigates the relationship between light, form, colour and space, maintaining a dialogue with the Italian artistic tradition and the Venetian cultural context. Tancredi Parmeggiani, by contrast, developed a highly experimental visual language in which signs, colour and rhythm become the main expressive elements. Together, the works provide an opportunity to examine two distinct artistic paths and their place within the history of twentieth-century Italian art.
