Across Amelia, Lugnano in Teverina, Orvieto, San Gemini and Terni, from 27 August to 23 October, Aspettando Beethoven - Festival Opera In Canto presents a programme of concerts, film screenings and performances focusing in particular on the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. The festival explores all nine symphonies through historical transcriptions, versions for small ensembles and contemporary reinterpretations. In Amelia, the programme opens with the Third and First Symphonies, while Lugnano in Teverina hosts the Sixth and Orvieto presents a programme featuring works by Berg and Mahler. Events in Terni include a screening of the silent film Das Leben des Beethoven, concerts devoted to the Fourth, Eighth and Ninth Symphonies and the closing performance Dark Ludwig / Second Symphony. San Gemini hosts the Allegretto from the Seventh Symphony. Alongside Beethoven’s music, the programme includes world premieres, transcriptions by composers such as Liszt, Sitt and Best, and the OperaScuola project, which brings Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore Pocket-Opera to San Gemini, Amelia and Terni.
