Citerna, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy
Known in Roman times as Civitas Sobariae, Citerna is a lovely city in the North of Umbria, recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Much of its artistic riches were destroyed in the violent earthquake of 1917, but the circular Tower, symbolic of the city, remained intact.
A visit to the 14th century church of Saint Francis, situated on Corso Garibaldi in the historical centre, is highly recommended; the simple Renaissance forms are the result of remodelling that took place in 1508.
