Un chef-d’œuvre à Pérouse : L’Arlésienne de Vincent van Gogh

At the National Gallery of Umbria, from 1 July, visitors can explore an exhibition dedicated to L’Arlésienne by Vincent van Gogh, one of the Dutch artist’s most renowned paintings, on loan from the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome. The exhibition is the third chapter of the A Masterpiece in Perugia project, which has previously brought works by artists such as Klimt and Modigliani to the city. Through multimedia content, video projections and interpretive materials, the exhibition examines van Gogh’s life and artistic journey while placing the painting within its broader cultural context. The display is enriched by a collaboration with the Museum of the Nineteenth Century in Pescara – Di Persio Pallotta Foundation, which has loaned sixteen works by leading Italian artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Paintings by Giovanni Boldini, Giuseppe De Nittis, Silvestro Lega and Antonio Mancini create a dialogue with van Gogh’s masterpiece, exploring the evolution of portraiture, artistic language and the cultural transformations associated with the rise of modernity. To mark the opening, the National Gallery of Umbria will remain exceptionally open until 11:30 pm, with last admission at 10:30 pm. Entrance to the exhibition will be free throughout the inaugural evening, while standard admission fees will apply to the permanent collections.
