Guerra del sale 2026
In the historic centre of Torgiano, on 7 and 8 November, the Guerra del Sale returns with a Renaissance re-enactment dedicated to the events of 1540. For two days, the village streets will host historical parades, a market, performances, music, traditional crafts and activities for children. The main event will be the Battle of Torgiano, recalling the conflict between Perugia and the papal forces after Pope Paul III introduced a tax on salt. The revolt led Perugia to lose its independence, while Torgiano was one of the last places involved in the conflict. Around one hundred costumed participants will recreate scenes of daily life and moments from the battle. The event also offers an opportunity to discover the village through history, culture, art and local food and wine traditions.
