Grandi fotografi per l’Umbria 2026
At the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria in Perugia, from September 18 to November 1, the exhibition Grandi fotografi per l’Umbria showcases works by Mario Giacomelli, Fulvio Roiter, and Luigi Spina. The exhibition brings together 55 photographs recently added to the museum's collection, as part of an initiative that places contemporary photography in dialogue with the institution's historic heritage. The first section gathers color images taken by Giacomelli in the Umbrian Apennines, where the vibrant colors of spring transform the landscape into painterly forms. Next is the body of work produced by Roiter in 1955, documenting rural life, traditional trades, and daily habits of the time through an anthropological lens. The route concludes with Spina’s photographs of urban centers and sites linked to the Franciscan tradition, focusing on the rendering of light and a sense of spatial balance reminiscent of Perugino's paintings. The layout, curated by Maria Elena Lascaro and Virginia Lanti based on a design concept by Spina himself, illustrates distinct visual interpretations of the region.
