Assisi, from 3 to 5 September, hosts Art Rock Maskè – Commedia dell’Arte Festival, an event dedicated to the mask as part of Europe’s intangible cultural heritage and to the relationship between the tradition of Commedia dell’Arte and the figure of Saint Francis, also known as the “Jester of God”. The festival takes place in the Giardino degli Incanti at Rocca Maggiore in Assisi as part of the initiatives marking the eighth centenary of the Saint’s death.

The programme features theatre performances, workshops and educational activities open to audiences of all ages. Through the language of theatre and masks, the event creates opportunities for artists, residents and visitors to meet and engage with a tradition that remains an important part of European cultural heritage.
