Steve McCurry WORKSHOP SPIRITUALITY

The workshop

"When I work with photographers, I don’t tell them what to see. I ask them to pay attention. To slow down. To allow a place reveal itself.

Sometimes the most important picture only reveals itself only after you stop searching for it.

Umbria doesn’t shout.

It asks you to listen. Its landscapes, its people, and its light, all carry with them a sense of timelessness.

Photography begins with curiosity, but it also requires empathy.

You have to be present. You have to make a human connection.

When that happens, the camera becomes more than a tool. It becomes a way of understanding where you are."

"Spirituality and devotion are not always something visible. Sometimes it feels in silence, in a gesture, or in the way light enters a room.

Saint Francis is part of the memory of this land; his presence remains in the landscape, in the people and in the simplicity of everyday life.

I came to Umbria to look beyond the obvious in things. I wanted to find devotion in ordinary moments, in work, in solitude, and in human connection.

Photography cannot make the invisible visible, but it can ask us to look more carefully.

It can preserve a gesture, a meaning, a moment of stillness that might otherwise disappear.

A photograph cannot explain spirituality, but sometimes it can bring us closer to it."
