Hispellvm 2026

From 27 to 30 August, Spello hosts HISPELLVM, a historical re-enactment devoted to the Roman era in the age of Constantine the Great. For four days the Umbrian town is transformed into a Roman encampment, bringing back to life the customs, costumes and rituals of imperial civilisation through carefully researched reconstructions.

The programme centres on Roman daily life, with domestic scenes, period crafts and a market animating the streets of the historic centre. A central role is given to performances and gladiatorial games, with combat demonstrations and military technique displays evoking the arenas of ancient Rome. Alongside the performances, the event features religious and civic rites reconstructed from historical sources, routes dedicated to Roman food with period preparations and tastings, and a programme of cultural talks on the late antique Roman world.
