Weekend in Umbria with a ‘Torta al testo’ cooking class

The package also includes an interesting cookery class on how to make ‘torta al testo’. ‘Torta al testo’ is an ancient, unleavened bread that takes its name from the cast-iron dish, the ‘testo’, on which the dough was baked. With just a few deft and loving touches from expert hands, you’ll find yourself immersed in a world of authentic flavours and aromas, at the heart of Umbrian culinary tradition. A simple yet truly special recipe that will delight your palate! At the end of the class, enjoy a delicious tasting of ‘torta al testo’ filled with the very best of local cured meats, accompanied by a glass of fine wine.

BOOKING MODALITIES:
Request confirmation of availability of services and payment of a deposit equal to 30% of the total amount of the package upon confirmation and payment of the remaining balance 25 days prior to arrival. For bookings made during the 25 days prior to arrival, you will be asked to pay the full amount of the package upon confirmation.

Arrival in Umbria after lunch, check-in at a farmhouse or 3* hotel; in the afternoon, a self-guided tour of Spello (recommended).
The Porta Consolare marks the entrance to Spello – or, as Julius Caesar called it, the ‘Splendidissima Colonia Julia’ – an enchanting village of Roman origin, ranked amongst Italy’s most beautiful villages thanks to its natural beauty and its cultural and artistic heritage. Spello still preserves traces of its historical past with its ancient walls and the Towers of Propertius, which guard Porta Venere, another entrance to the town. The church of Santa Maria Maggiore can be reached by strolling through picturesque alleyways and ancient streets, lined with flower-filled balconies which, over time, have become true symbols of the town and remain one of its most sought-after attractions to this day. Inside, the church houses an artistic treasure: the Baglioni Chapel, with its Deruta majolica floor and frescoes by Pinturicchio. Spello also boasts a rich art gallery and, just outside the city walls, a marvellous museum complex known as the ‘Villa Dei Mosaici’, which has unearthed 500 square metres of precious mosaics whose central theme is the grape harvest and wine.
8.30 pm: welcome dinner at a restaurant selected by us, drinks included. After dinner, return to accommodation and overnight stay.
Good morning! Today, after a hearty breakfast in a farmhouse/hotel, we propose a visit to Assisi on your own, a Franciscan place par excellence, not only in Umbria and Italy, but all over the world. Visit the Basilica Di San Francesco, visit Santa Chiara and stroll along the beautiful alleys of the village.
In the afternoon, a "Torta al testo" cooking class with final tasting, stuffed with all the best of local pork products.
Return to the agriturismo, / hotel, free dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast at the farmhouse/hotel; before setting off, we suggest you take a self-guided tour of Perugia (recommended). Perugia, the capital of the Umbria region, is well worth a visit not only for the beauty of its hilltop setting, but also for its fine ancient buildings. Before coming under Roman rule, ancient Perusia was one of the twelve cities of the Etruscan federation, and significant sections of the Etruscan walls, which stretched for 2,800 metres around the town, have been preserved. Perugia is renowned in the art world as the centre of the Umbrian School of Painting in the 15th and 16th centuries, and its leading figures, Pietro Vannucci (known as Perugino) and Bernardino Betti (known as Pinturicchio), worked here. The young Raphael worked in Perugino’s studio until 1504. You will find works by all three in the churches and public buildings of Perugia. Lunch at your leisure and departure. END OF SERVICES
