Museum of the Painted Egg in Civitella del Lago
It has been created a museum unique in the world collecting thousands of painted and sculpted eggs, result of the “PAINTED EGG’s National Exhibition-Competition”, born in 1982 in Civitella del Lago from the brilliant intuition of Bernardini Anacleto, president of a young Cultural Association.
Painting eggs during Easter’s time is a very ancient habit, highly widespread in Europe and especially in the central Italy: eggs used to be painted by using natural colours derived by infusions of flowers, herbs, onions and more.
The Painted Egg’s National Exhibition-Competition has been organized, from Easter to 1st May, since 1982. It is open to everyone, professionals or non-professional willing to express their creativity. Each year many artists try, during the different contests, to find new surprising and creative forms and techniques.
In 2005 Città di Castello saw the opening to the public of an original Museum, that exhibits thousands of painted or carved eggs from all animal species.
