PerSo - Perugia Social Film Festival 2026

From 24 September to 4 October, Perugia hosts the twelfth edition of the PerSo – Perugia Social Film Festival, dedicated to the theme Memory and Hope. The festival presents more than 50 films from over 25 countries and around 70 events across several venues in the city centre, with a programme focused on documentary and social cinema. The international PerSo Award and PerSo Short Award competitions are at the heart of the event, alongside screenings, talks and special events. Memory is one of the main themes, explored through works dealing with the Holocaust, twentieth-century political and social history, and family relationships. A special focus is dedicated to Claude Lanzmann, including the complete screening of Shoah, while Dario Fo and Andrea Pazienza are remembered through films and talks. A retrospective is also devoted to producer Carlo Cresto-Dina and selected documentaries from his career. The programme also explores new audiovisual languages through the Immersive Hub, featuring virtual reality works and a selection of short films made with generative artificial intelligence tools. Other sections focus on mental health and social marginalisation, environmental sustainability, Umbrian productions and Perugia’s cinematic history.
