Encuentro 2026

From 19 to 24 May, Perugia and Castiglione del Lago host the 13th edition of Encuentro, the festival dedicated to Spanish-language literatures, bringing together international authors, performances and conversations between writers and audiences.

The festival opens on Tuesday 19 May at the Università per Stranieri with Valeria Luiselli presenting Inizio metà fine, followed the next day by Guillermo Arriaga with El Hombre. Also on Wednesday 20, at the Cinema Zenith, Christian Raimo stages Barrilete Cósmico. Maradona pedagogista, a performance weaving together football, pedagogy and literature.

The festival also reaches schools: on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 May, Mercedes Cebrián, Edurne Portela and José Ovejero meet students at the Postmodernissimo and Palazzo della Corgna, exploring texts by Carlos Ruiz Zafón and Mario Benedetti. On the 22nd, one of the most original events is ¡A bordo!: a lecture in twelve microfragments on the Minimetrò with Paolo Di Paolo.

Further highlights include Fernanda Trías presenting Melma rosa, Mathias Énard in conversation with Paolo Di Paolo on Malinconia dei confini. Nord, and Pablo Maurette and Guillermo Arriaga exploring the origins of writing at the Rocca del Leone in Castiglione del Lago. Also in Castiglione del Lago: an evening with Franco Gabrielli and his Contro la paura, and a talk with Gaja Lombardi Cenciarelli on Il rivoluzionario e la maestra. A conversation on food and literature with Mercedes Cebrián and Ignacio Peyró at Umbrò rounds off a festival that spans venues, formats and generations.
