Palio delle Barche 2025
From 20 to 27 July 2025, Passignano sul Trasimeno will host the Palio delle Barche, one of Umbria’s most iconic historical re-enactments. For an entire week, the lakeside town will come alive with costumed parades, neighbourhood competitions, performances and traditional food taverns at the Giardini del Pidocchietto, where visitors can enjoy local specialities in a lively atmosphere.
The event opens on Sunday 20 July with an exhibition of original Palio paintings at the Medieval Fortress, the symbolic handing over of the town keys, and a night-time historical parade. Throughout the week, the programme features historical games, street performers, music shows, medieval tournaments and daily training sessions by the competing districts. Highlights include the Castle Fire show, the “Perla del Trasimeno” award, the “Arte Azzurra” youth art competition, and the debut of the Junior Palio, a new addition for 2025.
Friday sees the final trial run and the traditional Corsa delle Brocche, while Sunday 27 July marks the climax with the costumed Mass, the colourful parade Sfilando a colori and the 42nd edition of the Palio delle Barche, a spectacular race through the town and across the waters of the lake. The event ends with the award ceremony, the illuminated balloon display Trasimeno Night Glow, and a fireworks show over the lake.
